Joining the festivities...

It will be almost one year on June 21 since we sailed under the Golden Gate bridge and turned left our destination is Zihuatanejo. Well we've been there and along the way we joined in some of the cruising events. Zihuatanejo was Sail fest; in Banderas bay was the Banderas Bay regatta; in La Paz they had Bay Fest; and in Puerto Escondido they have Loreto Fest.  Cruisers and local gringo residents love to help the Mexican children who are poor and their families unable to provide proper education. The money raised from these events go toward building schools or education. These events are also an opportunity to meet and get to know one another. Some come year after year to join these events. Lenard & I don't usually join these type of events. However, we were curious what they do in these festivities.

We arrived in Puerto Escondido a few days before Loreto fest started. Loreto Fest is from Friday, April 30th through Sunday, May 2. I don't know about Lenard but I've enjoyed the festivities. We even signed up for the horseshoe tournament. After 5 years of not playing horseshoes. We didn't do too bad. However, we got eliminated on the first round. That's okay we were able to attend some of the seminars.

Above photos shows Wayne & Carol on s/v Capricorn Cat showing their great form at the bocce tournament. They could have been in the finals but they opted not to continue.

Lenard, Pam & Steve (light blue & dark polo shirt) - waiting for Terry's Diving the Sea of Cortez seminar
The fishing seminars and Terry's Diving the Sea of Cortez was very popular. At the diving seminar, we watched a video of Terry and other divers swimming on the back of manta rays. It was amazing to watch.

Ginger, Dorita & Ray - Dorita caught a 48 lb. Yellowtail the day before. She's quite a fisherwoman for someone who is 76 years young.
The fest was closed early because of big winds.

However, the day before, Gerry and Gail are the dinghy race champs. Gerry steered the dinghy while blindfolded and Gail instructs him to go left or right. I have a video of their winning run of 1 minute and 6 seconds. Will be added when we have better internet connection.
