The next day we trekked around the town and had a beer at one of the palapa bar restaurant on the beach. Ran into the Gary & Geri of s/v Mosholu and Jeff & ? of s/v Journey. They took a water taxi from Boca de Tomatlan and spent the whole day in Yelapa sight-seeing. One of the locals informed us of a reggae concert at Jardin Angelina's at 1:30 so we went back to the boat and had lunch and around three o'clock we headed back ashore.
When we went back ashore, we decided to take a hike up above the waterfall in hopes of meeting Don Tambur. Supposedly, his house is somewhere above the waterfall. It was a good 20 minute hike up to get to the pool on top of the waterfall. It was getting late in the afternoon and will soon be dark in the next 45 minutes. We were about to go back down and a couple was walking up our way. Come to find out it was Don Tambur, the bongo drum maker and his girlfriend, Maude. They invited us up to their house and we gladly accepted.
We stayed for dinner. It was dark when we went back down the mountain. On the way down, we heard rustling in the bushes. Don told us there are jaguars here but the rustling was from a family of armadillos.
The next day we went back into town for the last time to buy raicilla - Mexican moonshine. Then we headed back to La Cruz.
Locals and tourist enjoying good weather, music and drinks.
After a couple of hours, we decided to go back to town and look for some raicilla to buy. The bartender at the bar told us to buy it from Javier Rodriguez the rosewood artisan in town. He has the best raicilla of all Yelapa.
Javier Sr. pouring a couple of shots of raicilla for us to try. |
