July 9-18, 2010

We pulled anchor at 8:45am from Port San Luis. We arrived at Cojo anchorage around 6:45pm. We spent the night and in the morning headed towards the Channel Islands.

San Miguel island is the westernmost Channel island and is located closest to Point Conception. We anchored here for 2 days. One day we went on a tour of the island with the resident park ranger, George Roberts. He is a retired national park service employee. Now he volunteers a couple weeks a month. He spends some of his time sailing his Ranger 27.

On this day we probably walked close to 10 miles.
There were wood on the beach. We were tempted to have a bonfire the last night we were there but we didn't. NO FIRES ON THE BEACH!
The next morning we left for Santa Rosa Island. It started out to be a beautiful day. When we got to one of the anchorages at Santa Rosa Island - Johnson's Lee, the wind picked up. We were going to anchor at Johnson's Lee but there were so much kelp we decided to head for Becher's bay. The wind never let up. We anchored at Becher's bay and stayed there for 2 days. At times there were gust of up to 45mph. I did not sleep for 2 days. I was afraid that the we would drag the anchor. Lenard was not too concerned though. We left this anchorage and headed for Santa Barbara. I'm glad we did because I didn't know how much longer I can take without any sleep.
