Back in the USA - San Diego

Aurora, Kestrel and Rowan - three amazing kids
We arrived in San Diego July 8, Friday. Check in with the US customs. Okay so they took everything that was in the freezer. Can you believe even our homemade chili? We thought if it is cook it should be okay. By the way, they are not consistent. We've talked to other cruisers. One case they didn't even bother going through their fridge. Another case, the items were put in a bag for them but they left it on the boat. And another case, this couple kept them in a conversation and they didn't bother checking or going through their boat.
By the way, the harbor patrol guy told us we could have taken all our stuff back from the garbage can. I guess we could have but we didn't want to risk being caught taking our food back. Most of them were vacuumed sealed. DARN!

We stayed in San Diego long enough to purchase and install a new radar system. We also got to visit team Hudson in Chula Vista. From Glorietta bay to Chula Vista is a 35-45 minute dinghy ride. It was a beautiful day and evening. We went swimming, had birthday cake (Rowan's birthday) and went to the zoo compliments of Jason and Laureen.

We stayed a few days at one of the harbor police transient slips. For ten bucks a night, you can't beat that. We had dinner at the San Diego Yacht Club with Sally & Wytie of s/v Reality Check and Cindy & Faith of s/v Carmen Miranda (read about them on Lat 38 in Changes). Awesome people!

We met Timo and Sondra of s/v Ultima. They helped me take Lenard up the mast. They joined us for dinner along with Jason, Laureen, Rowan, Kestrel and Aurora. By the way, when we first saw Timo and Sondra, we thought they were Cheks because on their boat under their boat name was Gromitz, CKA. Come to find out they were not from Chezkoslovakia. They are actually from Germany heading for the Sea of Cortez to San Carlos perhaps. Leaving their boat there to return to Germany and work for a couple of years to earn more money.
